OUR
INSPIRATION |
 |
| As
we move into the new millennium, the world, in spite of
powerful technologies and extraordinary precedents in
socio-economic development in different regions, confronts
an increasing disparity between developed and less developed
nations. It is our belief that while governments and institutions
such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, United
Nations, and others continue finding ways to transcend
political boundaries to address socio-economic development
issues, the power of the people can supersede such influences.
Collectively, the people who migrated from less privileged
regions to more advanced, with a passion to nourish their
roots and ancestral heritage could ignite sparks of inspiration
which could unleash the forces of development. The melting
pot of North America with an impressive history of selfless
social and charitable work, provides an excellent environment
for helping people in societies belonging to their ancestral
roots. |

Birth
of The Boston Pledge |
 |
|
The Boston Pledge was born after the seminal NABC 2001
conference in Lowell, just outside
of Boston, Massachusetts. The Renaissance
seminar was one of the major econo-cultural tracks hosted
at the event. The three-day seminar series drew Indians
from all walks of life to rekindle their spirits and create
new vibrancy surrounding the revitalization of Bengal, a state in India.
The series of in-depth analyses and discussions refreshed
old minds and inspired young ones to set in motion the
gears to trigger creation of a new, enterprising state.
The seminars effectively brought speakers together in
hours of debate, questioning, appraising, and envisioning
the purposes of philanthropy - Why man sought to help
mankind. The words of great local heroes and scholars,
unflinching Bengali martyrs and soldiers were brought
forth as the attendees opened their minds to revitalizing
the greatness of that state. Change, transformation,
Renaissance, all identify with one commonality - the constant
dynamic that energizes us. These effects are the window
of opportunity for prosperity and growth - for societal
flaws to be overcome. Drawing upon the discourse during
the seminars on all three days a consensus was formed
agreeing to a common agenda and blueprint that the public
could commit to. Such was the inception of The Boston
Pledge. Boston, which has been the sanctuary of frontiers
thinking must find ways to harness its spirit to create
a global force which could involve people from economically
advanced regions to resolve basic issues at the grass
roots of developing economy. |
